The Handmade Fair

All things Summer 2018Posted by sammy owens Tue, June 26, 2018 14:16:00
So.... I have just returned from the most amazing weekend ever at Kirstie Allsopps Handmade fair. I was thrilled to be asked to attend both Bowood house and Hampton Court Palace as one of their craft experts and bowood house was just great! It was an utterly stunning location and everyone was so friendly and full of fun!
I taught 3 workshops throughout the course of the weekend and although having never taught anyone before, I had the most fun. I was very nervous as I was teaching around 300 people to make a pompom fox in under an hour and my gosh, it was pretty stressful at times! (and hot in that tent!). But lots of pompom foxes were born and that made me very happy indeed. Seeing everyone's faces as they walked out with their fox was so lovely to see and I was feeling very chuffed with myself I have to say.

Everyone who attended my workshops were all so lovely and patient with me so thank you to all who came. I would love to see all of your foxes so please do tag me using the hashtag #pomityourself.

I was also lucky enough to be asked to go on stage and upcycle something against the clock and a fellow competitor for the Mollie makes mash up on the Sunday. it was so much fun and we had to upcycle a straw bag. I of course attached pompoms and made my bag all summery and fun with a smiley sunshine and rainbow ribbon. I also filled the bag with hundreds of rainbow pompoms. I was against the lovely Momtaz Begum-Hossain who is utterly fabulous and I am pleased (and amazed) to say I won the mash up.smiley

To my astonishment, I also got asked to join Kaffe Fassett and Kirstie Allsopp on stage during Kaffe's inspirational talk. All because of the fabulous skirt I was wearing. Of course, Kaffe loves colour and that skirt was colourful!! I must have been stopped over 100 times over the weekend by people wanting to say they loved my skirt. It was handmade by the lovely Jen at Emerge (she has an Instagram account so go check it out). It was also an opportunity to get a selfie with Kirstie ha ha.

I Met so many lovely people, including the girls from Mollie makes and the lovely Christine leech who runs Sewyeah (and she is also a lover of pompoms!), so many people on amazing stalls ,so many of which I hope to get to see at Hampton court as I wanted to buy some things but didn't get round to it.

All in all it was a fabulous, sunny, crafty, exhausting weekend and I cant wait for September at Hampton court palace! Are your coming!? Pop over to WWW.THEHANDMADEFAIR.COM for tickets x
